Who's your mother?

It seems there comes in a time in every PhD candidates life when they start working ridiculously long hours. I have hit that time in the program. I am trying to get my thesis written which means that I drop Calvin off at nursery in the morning, get into the office and stay there until around 30 minutes before he goes to bed so that I can get a little time with him before he is off to sleep. I don’t love the hours that I have to work right now to get this thesis done, but I know that it is important for my family and our future. This is especially true as we get closer to having Grace come home. The thesis needs to be done, so that when she comes home, I don’t have to worry about it anymore.

Why We Adopt

Last Saturday we had a fundraiser here in Edinburgh for our adoption. We raised just under £1500 (that’s about $2000). It was a fun night and pretty amazing to think about. After that fundraiser we find ourselves one step closer to bringing Grace home. We only need to raise another $23,000. It is always amazing to think about how many people have come on board to help out with this adoption. We are blessed to have great friends and family surrounding us through this journey.

Fathers and Sons

The past couple days I have had a bit of time to think about being a Father. Calvin is at this really cool age where he is learning how to do different things. He is getting independent and yet at the same time loves cuddling. He wakes up in the morning and wants to cuddle with mom. At bed time, he wants me to cuddle with him after having read a book or two, prayed, and sung a song. He just wants to cuddle. Yet, between waking up and going to bed he is very much on the go and active. He wants to do everything and he wants little to no help in doing it.
