On Being Home

Have been home for almost a month. Time has flown by. I can't really get my head around the fact that we are already half of the way through this trip. A few people have asked if we are ready to go back to Edinburgh yet. The answer I have given is yes, but that's only because we are looking forward to sleeping again. The trip so far has been nonstop. We have loved it and it is great, but it is exhausting.

Walking

Yesterday I walked around 12 miles. It was more than I normally walk in a day. The average day here in Edinburgh is about 4-5 miles. We had a bit of an emergency that caused me to walk to and from school a couple more times than normal. On top of that, running was in my workout yesterday morning. So, by the end of the day, I had put in about 12 miles.

Home Again Home Again

Last week I was writing about how I only had two more sleeps before I would be home. Today I sit in my living room writing this blog update. It is good to be home. I didn't realize how much I missed my family until that afternoon when I walked into the house and saw Taryn and Calvin. It was a precious moment.

One Month

Most of you know that recently Cam was away for a month. While he ventured off to Kampen in the Netherlands, Calvin and I held the Clausing fort here in Edinburgh. It sure was a month!

2 More Sleeps

I was talking to Taryn and Calvin this morning on FaceTime. Calvin was telling me all about what he was going to do today. He was going to ride a bike. If he falls, he will wipe his hands off (something I taught him). He will play in water. Then he plans to go up, up, up, up a slide. When he gets to the top, 'uh oh' (which means he will go down). It was great. I miss them. I miss waking up in the morning and making breakfast for Taryn and Calvin. I miss early morning coffee with Taryn when the house is still quiet. Two more sleeps and then I am home.

Living in Small Spaces

Many of you might remember the difficulties we had finding a place to live when we arrived in Edinburgh. Not only was it at the tail end of their International festival (a big music and arts festival every year held in Edinburgh) but it was also the beginning of the school year which meant that every student in the world was arriving in Edinburgh and looking for a place to live. Okay – slight exaggeration, but it certainly felt like it. As we were beginning our flat search it quickly became evident the we were about to embark on a period of small space living.

Running from the Past

So, we moved to Edinburgh about a week ago now. The city is amazing. I have loved the fact that I can walk pretty much anywhere. Great coffee shops abound (even though right now I find myself in a Starbucks... free internet is free internet). Taryn and I have explored the city a little bit as we search for a place to live.

Why?

Our family has entered an uprooted phase. As we head toward Scotland late August things are getting very real. It’s time to start living out of suitcases.

Moving Fast...

This little home has been the perfect provision for us. It came to us quite unexpectedly and in many ways has been a fantastic location and size for our first home.
