The Ball is Rolling

The Ball is Rolling

The ball is rolling. Thought I would try and keep you all updated. I know some of you are more familiar with the adoption process than others. Please bear with me as I try to give you some sense of what the process looks like, where we are, and what is next.

When we first started this process, both our adoption agency and the US government had approved us to adopt a child as old as four. Because we have proceeded with the adoption of an 8-year-old, we had to amend documents at both of these places. Our agency had their paperwork amended in a day, but the US government paperwork was a little more involved. We had to change our initial approval, and then we also had to gather the paperwork to apply for a form which essentially asks the government to give us permission to adopt this particular child. This included information and paperwork from Lesotho. This took some time and then, of course, we received paperwork with spelling mistakes…. All that to say this paperwork took a couple of weeks to gather, but we finally got everything in order. The timing turned out to be perfect because I was able to send it back to the States with my friends who were visiting here.

Once our amazing adoption ‘elves’ Stateside got everything together that needed to be sent, it was all signed, sealed, and delivered. On November 23rd the USCIS received everything they need. So, now we just wait for that paperwork to be processed and to hear if everything is okay or further information is required. We cannot move ahead without this USCIS approval, so we are praying this moves quickly.

In the meantime, we keep focusing on grant writing and making sure we can raise all the funds we will need to complete the adoption. In this respect, I have been somewhat busy filling out a number of grant applications (think I have completed around seven so far) and have a few more on the table to complete. I am also trying to get a ‘Scotland 2019’ calendar ready to go online to sell before Christmas (we will make a link public as soon as the calendar is ready).  We are also in the early stages of discussing a fundraiser here in Scotland with two churches hosting a ‘Ceilidh’ on January 19 (this is a good example of a Scottish Cèilidh). If you would like to help out by giving directly toward our adoption, can do so at our adoption agency’s website.

We decided to set up a private Facebook group where we will put up all our short updates and you can follow the journey more closely. If you would like to join this, please message me and I will be happy to add you to this group. We will continue to post the bits and pieces of the journey that can be publicly shared on the blog, but more and regular information will be available on the private Facebook group.

Thank you for walking with us through this journey. We value your prayers as we navigate very unfamiliar waters.
