I am going to preface everything I am about to say with I have just gotten off an airplane and just sat down after going to find food for the family. These are very jet-lagged thoughts. As we got on a plane to go back home some time yesterday, I thought back to a long journey. Not just a journey from Nashville to Edinburgh, but the journey that brought me to the point in life that I find myself today.
As I thought back on that journey, what I realized is that more than places, it is the people along the way that stand out to me. The people that have been placed in my life at the most opportune times to speak into that life. For the most part, I remember little of the specifics of what they said to me. What I remember is their lives. The way they demonstrated the Gospel to me.
But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. - 1 Thessalonians 2:7–8
It is these people in my life that has brought me to the place that I find myself today. The most striking part of this reflection, however, was on this trip watching my son. It was fun to watch and see how his journey is being shaped. This trip reminded me of all the people that have poured Gospel truth into my life and spoken words of grace to me. This trip made me expectant and hopeful for Calvin and his journey, knowing that he already has so many people around him sharing with him the Gospel of God and their lives.
