Buses, Bagpipes and Bright Sunny Days

Buses, Bagpipes and Bright Sunny Days

Buses, bagpipes and bright sunny days….oh, and blisters! Today marks one week since we arrived in Edinburgh. A couple of first impressions of our whirlwind of a first week include catching more buses than I can remember (did I ever catch a bus in the States?) - this definitely takes me back to living in Bogota. The sound of bagpipes as you are walking down the street – nothing like it. Beautiful weather. The weather has been glorious. Beautiful sunny days with a bit of a chill in the air help all the walking we have been doing. Yes! Walking. Not really my favourite pastime but more of a necessity over the past week. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really thinking when I tried out my new shoes and welcomed the ever annoying blister – ouchie ouch!

We are still in flat hunting mode. The routine goes something like this: see an advertised flat, send an email/call someone, flat has been taken, see an advertised flat, send an email/call someone, flat is available in October/November. Drink some coffee. Eat some Cadbury chocolate, and start all over again! I say that but in all honesty, we have viewed a couple of flats that we liked but were either at the top end of our budget or on the third floor and thus we were hesitant to jump on them straight away. We have four viewings lined up this week, so hopefully one of these will pan out. It’s been a very busy week.

Calvin Jack is taking everything in his stride. The family we are staying with call him the sleep Jedi because he has been sleeping so well. We put him in crèche at church on Sunday and he was off like he owned the place. All this to say, a place to call home will be welcomed for some sense of structure to our days.

One of the highlights of my first week was actually having a cuppa with my dear friend, Joyce from Adelaide. Yes, it just happened to turn out that we were in Edinburgh on the same day. I was able to walk down the street, around the corner and see a familiar face.

Well, my friends. Week one has closed and now we continue to discover what life will look like in our new city. Thanks for taking the time to read and journey with us.

Until next time…
