Our family has entered an uprooted phase. As we head toward Scotland in late August things are getting very real.
It’s time to start living out of suitcases.
We are currently in Wisconsin visiting family. Calvin has been such a trooper, and though unsettled at times, still manages to be a joy wherever we are.
To be frank, this phase brings many unexpected emotions. You would think after having lived in approximately 45 houses already in my wee life that I am used to moving. I’m not.
Let me ramble for a bit. One of the many different thoughts wrapped up nicely in my brain is the question why we are doing this. This thought returns again and again – especially when I get the feeling (is it just me?) that this adventure can easily be misunderstood. Why does Cam need to go to Edinburgh? Why does he need to do a PhD? Why are we asking for support?
Cam doesn’t have to go to Edinburgh. Cam doesn’t have to do a PhD. And, we don’t have to ask for support. But, there’s always a but!
Of course we don’t know what the end of this road looks like, but, as someone who has watched Cam closely over the last few years and seen, first hand, how much he has grown as a student, a preacher, a teacher, a pastor, a husband, and a father, I have no doubt that this is the perfect next step for him (and for our family). This amazing opportunity to spend three years dedicated to study the Word of God for the benefit of the church is a worthy cause and it is definitely worth travelling to Scotland, pursuing a PhD and asking for people to support us in this adventure.
There is a bigger picture here. Of course we can’t see it in its entirety right now but our little family is simply seeking to take another step in the right direction, so that God’s people of this generation and the next do not neglect the truth of His Word.
And that, my friends, is why I’m okay with living out of a suitcase for now.
Until next time...
